sIRoCube – the stationary, modular NIR-Spectrometer for all types of online detection
of plastics

 

sIRoCube – the stationary modular NIR-Spectrometer for touchless measuring of plastics from a distance up to about 60 cm.

Applications

The sIRoCube is the fast basic unit for the NIR measuring of plastics. It can be combined with several options or it can be run in parallel operation to increase the measuring volume to cover a bunch of different applications.

Description and Operation

For plastic identification the samples are quickly passed by - e.g. using a conveyer belt - below the optical focus lens. The light focus (ap. 4 - 6 cm) of the movable NIR light source can be adjusted for a distance from 30 up to 60 cm. The identification result is also generated by an integrated relay-interface board as an output signal for sorting systems. Polymer types and the corresponding relay positions can be set individually. A 9-pole-SUB-D connector allows individual cable wiring. Furthermore the online result can be shown on an external VGA screen, too.

The device includes the optical NIR-system and the computer, which controls and evaluates the identification process. Parameter settings like model selection can be set by an external keyboard or by the integrated LCD-touchscreen. Additional connections like an USB-interface allow external data transfer.

As further accessory a LED-Array for the visual indication of the results is available as well as an external touchscreen for its control and operation.

The sIRoCube design enables to set up several units side by side, thus the whole width of a conveyer belt can be radiated.

Identification of different plastic types is the result of a trained pattern recognition. After the measurement of the plastic sample the optical information (absorption bands of overtone- and combination vibrations) are processed by a neural network. The result of the calculation is a list of the most probable polymer type identified within a probability of 0 and 100%.

Furthermore up to 7 pre-set polymer types can be counted with corresponding external signal generation.

The software allows detailed spectra viewing, loading, saving and editing. The setting of different measuring parameters as so as the possibility to display the resulting spectra easily allows to develop own applications.
